Founded by the MD Hotel Group, Wallington Orchard is the perfect venue for rustic weddings on a modest budget. Situated on the Bellarine Peninsula, the charming barn is nestled in a fruit orchard, overlooking rolling hills.

I was tasked with designing the logo suite, icon, colour palette and typographic system, referencing the flora of the estate. The result is an earthy brand identity that pairs a lino-cut icon with dainty typography.

The result – Launched in January 2024, to 12 enquiries within 48 hours of the social media launch.

The key features of the venue are the barn and the large variety of fruit trees on site. This was to be my inspiration for the icon and identity.

Successful wineries, distilleries and farm venues are using iconography that plays on their architectural features or landmarks. This could be a spire on the roof, a map of the farm, an animal that’s kept, or an old tree. I analysed the features of Wallington Orchard and allowed myself to be inspired.

I felt like the venue was great because it has both a barn and orchard to utilise. Therefore, it was integral I find a way to combine both features.

Beginning with sketching on tracing paper, I explored merging the trees and barn into one icon through overlaying sketches of the trees onto a silhouette of the barn until I found a shape that was balanced.

Capturing the essence of Wallington Orchard in the icon and expanding it out into an adaptable brand.

An icon that encapsulates the architecture and surrounds.

I contained the shape of the fruit trees within the shape of the barn. It reflects the venue’s surrounds as well as where the functions take place.

Creating a logotype that’s adaptable and understated

I chose to use Hatton Light for the logo for its elegance and contrast between sharp and smooth. The logo was expanded out to suit different applications and shapes. It resembles a badge to infer prestige and heritage.

I wanted to steer away from typical muted colours seen in a lot of wedding branding and instead reference the vibrant vineyards, fruit orchard and overall colour of the environment.

Paired back Typography.

I paired the workhorse Neue Haas Grotesk with Ivy Presto for a clean and elegant look. Styled with loose tracking and light weights to keep the brand crisp and paired back.

The first event was booked within a week of launching.

I handed off the brand kit which the in-house team is applying across social media channels. They booked their first wedding in November 2023, just days after the brand launched.
